History / Accomplishments
The Punta Gorda Historic District Homeowners Association was established in late 2017 with the goal of giving District 1 residents a bigger voice and greater visibility with the City Council and City administration. We have delivered a number of notable achievements including:
Established unified historic district with branding from Cooper St. to Fishermens Village.
Active participation in the development of the Citywide Master Plan and named partner of the City in its implementation.
Advocated for increased investment in District 1 infrastructure to be funded by the new 1% sales tax.
Requested by the City to provide a representative to both the citizen group making recommendations on the new 1% sales tax projects and the citizen group interviewing candidates for the City Manager position.
Led the development of a compromise regarding pickle ball play in Gilchrist Park.
Won City Council support for a mechanism to manage on street non-resident overnight parking in District 1.
Prevented the City from imposing new restrictions on the parking of boats and recreational vehicles on resident’s property.
Actively support the annual downtown Halloween and Tree Lighting celebrations.
Recognized by City Council and staff as a way to communicate with District 1 homeowners.
While we can be proud of these accomplishments, it is clear that if the HOA is to thrive, we need to evolve the structure and membership to reflect more appropriately the diversity of our constituents which are businesses and not for profits, as well as residents.
To that end, the membership held its annual meeting at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, November 18 at the Military Heritage Museum and the voting members voted on a number of key changes to our bylaws which approved the transition from a traditional Homeowners Association* to a civic association {CA} which is a voluntary group formed to promote common interests and positive change in a community, and adopted the new name of “The Historic Punta Gorda Civic Association Inc.”.
It also voted to expand the Board of Directors Officers from four (4) President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary by adding three (3) Directors to create a seven (7) member Board of Directors.
